Hello! I just purchased the Real Book v1.1 plugin – it’s very helpful, I love it! Thanks so much.
Just wondering if it would be possible to provide the project file with the hard cover rig seen in this photo –

I’m fairly new to C4D and am not quite sure how to set this up.. especially having the spine and pages connected to the hard cover spine. I would love to take a look at the source file, or any other help you could provide to achieve this would be great!
    Thanks again!

    Hi Gianni

I was wondering if there’s a way to change the end result of the animation so the book is only half open (so the pages only rotate 90° rather than 180°). I guess I can probably do this in expresso by changing a few references fro 180° to 90° but not sure which ones.

    • Gianni on December 1, 2014 at 2:24 pm

      Hi Matthew,
I guess you refer to the automatic animation. In this case It is not simple to make that. I need to see the XPresso setup to find the way. In case it will be simple to realize it I will write below to inform you.

I just got the book. It works great.
One question. When you have 100 pages, is there any way to use the multishader so I can add 100 textures at random?

    • Gianni on December 1, 2014 at 2:18 pm

      Hi Kenneth,
At this moment I could say no, it isn’t possible because the pages are not inside a Cloner Object, but probably it is possible to find the way to make what you need.

I just purchased the Real Book rig and its great but I need to make a thicker cover for the book.
I saw that another person asked about the hard cover real book rig which Serge made ( and you asked them to email you for more information on how to perform this. Could you help me out with this please.

    Hello bonjour,
I apologize if my questions are stupids. I wtached both demo video and I still don’t understand how to set-up the number of page, and how to simply and automaticly set-up a different texture for each page ?
In what you plug is better than the free one made by Nitro4d ?

    • Gianni on September 29, 2014 at 2:23 pm

      Hi Emmanuel,
first I want to say that no question is stupid. So, if you go at minute 3:03 tof demo video 1 you can see the procedure to make new pages. You can see that you need to make copies of the first page and add these in the linklist (the box you find in the XPresso setup). Pay attention to respect the right order. Go to the minute 13:05 to see how to add a material/texture.

The red line is the curve I want to make the black line is the current real book curve.

Let me know if this makes sense.

    I love this rig—fantastic work!

The book I am modeling uses heavier weight paper and the pages bend in an upside down arc curve instead of the s curve that you currently have now when I adjust the landing. Is there a way to adjust the bend position?

I went ahead and bought the plugin, and it seems to be working okay … but when I try to duplicate pages, they all appear in the same position. How do you get the pages to spread evenly across the width of the book?

The tutorial makes it look like it happens automatically.

    • Gianni on August 29, 2014 at 12:11 pm

They should reposition itself automatically. It could be a C4D Lite limitation.

    Hi Gianni,

great work – you solved one of the great C4D mysteries.
I have one request: Is it possible to have different shapes and sizes for each page? It would be perfect if it could iterate through a list of splines and extrude them. Are there any chances to implement that?

    • Gianni on July 2, 2014 at 9:52 am

      Hi illid,
      thank for your comment.
As you can see in the demo video the size of the page is changeable. If you want a shape different from a rettangle you can create your own and put it over the main page (the first page) in the object manager. But you need to choose the size before you create the copies because the slider for the size change will not work for the custom shape.

I was wondering if this plugin has the ability to thicken up the cover of the book. The pages and spine animation look fantastic, but the cover of the book is the same thickness as the pages. For what I’m working on, the cover would need to be made thicker, is this possible?

    • Gianni on April 30, 2014 at 12:38 pm

      Hi Matt,
In the preset there isn’t an option for add thickness, but if you want to add it a little bit you can follow these steps:
      1. Make your book with all the page and “cover”.
      2. Go to the Layer Manager and make the hidden layer visible.
      3. In the Object Manager add a new object (a cube for example) and put it under the first null page. After adjust the size and position and don’t forget to add subdivisions.
      4. Done.

Pay attention to the rotation points of spine that are fixed to avoid indesired behaviours.

How can you get the overlap on the first pages and then stop later on?
Do you use the automatic animation or animate each page separately?

    Hope you can help!:)

Another thing do you know how to put other image in the other side of the pages so they dont get mirrowed?? Thanks!

      Hi Diego,
      thank you very much.
If you enable Automatic Animation you should also keyframe the Animation slide… did you do it?
For the two side textures you need to apply two materials on the page, like you can see on the demo video 1 and set the material tag Front and Back side respectively.

I really like the control you have put into this!

I was wondering if you could put up a sample scene with a generic texture set up for a few pages. I set up textures as in the video under UV mapping, but switching front and back isn’t working. One texture comes out on both sides and not my second.

Or is there a way to see the UVs when in bodypaint to make it easier?

    • Gianni on April 23, 2014 at 2:50 pm

      Hi David,
      thank you for the feedback.
This behaviour is strange, the single page is a plane and the back and front settings for the UV mapping should work.
Send me an email with your project file so I can see what is going on.
      Best Regards,

    • David on April 24, 2014 at 5:46 pm

It seemed to magically fix itself! Not sure what happened. The only other thing which might not be something you can fix is that when adding a cloth nurbs, the base get’s throw off. When adding a negative thickness value to keep the texture front and back correct, the base looks detached which adds a shadow when rendering.

    • Gianni on April 24, 2014 at 6:07 pm

      Hi David,
as I wrote the preset has not been created thinking of applying thickness to the pages. But it could works with the Cloth Nurbs in some circumstances.
Try to set the Orientation to -Y on the last page (on the plane object).

    Grazie mille!

    • sean on April 21, 2014 at 1:32 am

    • Gianni on April 23, 2014 at 2:42 pm

      Grazie mille Sean,

    • sean on April 25, 2014 at 3:29 am

      Grazie mille!

    • Gianni on April 25, 2014 at 12:39 pm

      A risentirci,

      Hi Sarkaut,
You could try to use the Cloth NURBS with negative thickness, but the first axis of spine rotation will be moved by a value equal to the thickness used in the Cloth NURBS. The result should be great, but it could be need some position adjustment, the preset will became a little less mind free. I hope to have explained well what I mean.
