Perfect Split v.1.2

Perfect Split fixes the problem of not being able to simply cut a polygon, or group of polys, from a mesh and paste that group as a new object; leaving a hole where it once was. Instead of the tedious task of copying, pasting, deleting unneeded polys, optimizing meshes and blah blah blah; what a waste of time, but no more! 1 click solutions rule!

Supported C4D releases: R12, R13, R14
Required C4D modules: -
it's free!

What it does:

Perfect Split is a modeling companion tool that takes a polygon selection and 'splits' it out of the object and paste the selection as a new object. The original object is left with a hole. Combined the two objects are a perfect fit.

Some Uses:
making flush panels for thing like sliding doors, robot compartments, etc etc.

updates

Version 1.1: Updated an issue where the original mesh did not get optimized properly.

Version 1.2: Fixed issue where some people had missing icons.

Hi and thanks for this great time-saver plugin. I’ve found a problem in it: when you run it the first object in the C4D hierarchy gets renamed. Is it possible to solve this issue? Thanks a lot again,
    Michele

Hi,great time saver. It would be nice if the spliited polygons would be a parent of the object after the comand.

I also have the missing icon problem in R14 x64. Any solutions to this problem yet please?

    • Charles Rowland on February 13, 2013 at 11:38 pm

i should have something for you guys by this weekend. the issue seems to be hit and miss with no real reason for it so its made pinpointing it fairly problematic. you can hit me up on twitter @RagingClaw if you want to discuss things more in depth :)

quick question though, if you hold in SHIFT and press “C” you will get a prompt; if you type in perfect split in that box (its a command search) do you see the icon there or is it gone as well?

    Hi Charles,
I’m fairly new to C4D so I was having the same frustration trying to do somthing as simple as make part of a mesh a separate object which I need to do ALL the time. It was a relief seeing that I’m not the only one ! This tool is awesome.
One wish list feature would be to be able to keep the mapping coords on the newly created object. Or perhaps this is a limitation of C4D split command?
    Thanks a lot anyway.
    Juan

Hi, thanks for the good plugin.

One mistake, no icon for the plugin in c4d

    • Charles Rowland on July 18, 2012 at 3:36 pm

hmmm, no else has reported that. are you using a mac, or windows? if windows are you running 32bit or 64bit? Ive had 1 report below that some windows 64bit machines running 64bit Cinema have had an issue with a missing python library. this might be causing the plugin to not load right, thus screwing with the icon. im working to resolve this.

    • trekki on July 24, 2012 at 11:27 am

      I work with Win 7 x64.
      Thank you for your commend

Thank you. i’ve the same problem :(

    • Charles Rowland on August 20, 2012 at 3:37 pm

remember that if you are on R12, to look under the Python > Plugins menu and not the regular Plugins menu. You can also look in the command manager for Perfect Split and see if you have it there. If its not in the command manager then we have bigger problems. I have a fix for the missing library coming.

    Hi,
Perfectsplit don’t work for me in R13.061 you can see here the message in my console https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-A23N58uiM80/UAEbco_Mq2I/AAAAAAAADUo/ozJM_Qz1lrU/s800/plantage.png

that is one crazy error! good news is i think i know the issue. Looks like you are missing a python library file, which is dumb cause it should have been included with python by default. Good news is im not actually using that lib for anything so i will strip it from the import. can you send me an email at rowland.charles AT gmail .com so i can send you a version to test.

      thanks.

If I split off a polygon from a side of a cylinder, the axis orientation for the new part has the same object orientation as world orientation. I can’t move it radially away from the parent object by dragging.

The new split object’s local axis orientation should be based on it its normal direction, right?

    • Charles Rowland on July 18, 2012 at 3:33 pm

yes you are correct. i will take a look at this. thanks for the find!
